Did you know that 15 million babies are born prematurely around the world? That’s about 1 in 10 births. Many of these babies develop health concerns and if not addressed, can face low chances of survival. At McLeod Health, they lead the state effort to reduce infant mortality and reduce prematurity. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has earned the Level III distinction, one of only seven in South Carolina, which gives them access to trained specialists, state-of-the-art imaging, and breathing support to care for newborn lives as small as one pound.
